What is a boggit?
The boggits are the original indigenous creatures that live in caverns hollowed out of higher parts of the peat bogs.
In ancient times boggits used to fight a lot with the Humpties. These fights were usually about supplies of slugs which both creatures are very partial to. Now they live in relative harmony due mainly to the efforts of slug farmers on the islands.
boggits are very hairy to keep out the cold. They have three legs (one at the back) and snouts for snuffling grubs and slugs (their favourite although some are partial to an occasional seaweed noodle).
The boggits eat together in a very sociable and messy way with lots of snorting and snufflings on the middle levels of the caverns.
In the caverns, the boggits poo over the edge into a pit - the poo zone at the bottom. Heat rises from the Poo and that keeps caverns warm. Luckily the caverns are well drained and have lots of vents to let out the smell. This means that a boggit Cavern has lots of escape holes just like a rabbit warren.

The boggits sleep near these useful ecape routes. (Boglets sleep on bog cotton bedding and adults sleep have heather beds). Usually the caverns are kept popped by bog pines but sometimes when Humpties or humans dig for peat and there are cave-ins. Quick escape routes are also handy in case of flooding and attack from other creatures. ie, mink.
boggits can be very agressive wee beasties and can even attack large creatures, even the biggest humpty. boggits love a good fight, they even fight at feeding times amongst themselves, feeding time is therefore a very noisy affair.
The tactics boggits use against bigger assailants is a form of ram raid from behind on mass and at high speeds. this proves very effective.
boggits start as boglets with pinky brown snouts these get darker with age. They are very secretive and just cannot be seen by the human eye, they blend in too well with their surroundings. They have good relationships with a variety of smaller creatures for example slow worms are invited to boggit feasts on a regular basis.
The ancient Shaman of the Machumpty Clan sometimes wears a boggit as a headdress to remind him of ancient times.
